Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Mathematics
Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy
Indian Journal of History of Science
The publication activities of INSA have the roots to the depth of Academy's foundation in 1935 as being one of the key activities of the Academy. The activities encompass publication of three leading journals namely the Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy , the Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IJPAM) and the Indian Journal of History of Science (IJHS). In addition, the Academy publishes its Year Book, Annual Report, INSA News, Compendium of Fellows and Biographical Memoirs of deceased Fellows from time to time, Special Publications and INSA Seminars/Symposia proceedings in a regular way. The Academy has constituted a Publication Advisory Board (PAB) for rendering valuable guidance for strengthening the publication activities.

The Academy published Mathematics and related research articles initially in the Proceedings of INSA, but considering the large increase in the influx of mathematical articles, need to bring out a separate journal in this field was felt, as a result of which the Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IJPAM) came into being in January 1970. The Journal was quarterly in the beginning but had to be later changed over to a bi-monthly one. As the publishing of the Journal could not be kept abreast with the tremendous growth in the number of articles, its periodicity had to be revised further by changing it to a monthly publication from 1973. At a later stage in the recent years the procedure of the refereeing was reviewed introducing double refereeing process in order to further improve the quality of the Journal. The frequency of the Journal was changed to a bi-monthly from the year 2006. The IJPAM publishes carefully selected papers dealing with original research in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics and related Mathematical Sciences such as Operations Research, Game Theory, Mathematical Economics, Computer Science, Stochastic Modelling, Numerical Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Mathematical Systems etc. involving new developments and/or applications of Mathematics or Statistics. A paper will be considered for publication in the journal if it is not submitted for publication elsewhere and includes results which are new, nontrivial and significant. Further, it must be well written and of interest to a wide section of mathematicians or statisticians. Piecemeal results such as an inconclusive step toward an unproved result or a minor variation on a known result are in general not acceptable for publication. Formal novelty and mathematical correctness alone are not sufficient for publication. Editors might invite papers on specials topic which are currently of interest. However, all papers will be refereed whether invited or contributed.
The Journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index; Current Contents (Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences); Mathematical Reviews; INSPEC Science Abstracts (Part A), Zentralblatt fiir Mathematik as well as other major international abstracting services.
The authors are encouraged to contribute and prepare their manuscript as per INSA guidelines. The size of the Journal has been changed to Demi Quarto A4 International since January 1998.

Initially, in the beginning of 1935, the Academy commissioned its journal, the Proceedings of the National Institute of Sciences of India for publishing articles from all branches of Science including Mathematics. As the number of papers accepted increased, it was difficult for them to be accommodated in a single volume, and hence the journal was bifurcated into two parts - Part A (Physical Sciences) and part B (Biological Sciences) from 1955. Later, as the name of the Academy was changed to Indian National Science Academy, the journal became Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy in 1970 published in two parts. Six issues of each part were brought out in a calendar year. In 1997, a further change in the publication policy came forth and the Academy decided to shift orientation from January 1998 to publish review articles of contemporary scientific interest, evaluating advances and newer approaches in the field. The emphasis thus shifted from being vehicles of original research reports into ones of reviews, as well as of comprehensive summary reports on chosen topics. The size of the new version of Proceedings has been changed into Demi Quarto International A4 since January 1998. The Proceedings then concentrated in bringing out thematic issues on current scientific topics containing invited reviews both from India and abroad since 2001. However from the year 2006, the Academy brought out major changes in the Proceedings as the two parts have been merged into a single volume. Each issue of the Proceedings which is an inter-disciplinary journal covers areas under Physical, Biological, Applied Sciences and also Engineering. Four issues are brought out in the months of March, June, September and December each year. The Proceedings has been rejuvenated to contain review papers, original research articles, short communications, commentaries, lateral thinking and emerging techniques etc. thus covering a broad spectrum of reports, articles.
The interested authors are welcome to contribute to the Proceedings and submit their papers, which upon passing through the standard rigours of refereeing shall be published in the Journal.

This journal is being published by INSA since more than four decades now. The journal was first published in 1966 bianually. The articles started pouring in as the field got momentum and a lot of interest developed among the researchers working in various field of ancient, medieval and modern science in historical perspectives. It became an interesting forum for scientists, historians, sociologists, and philosophers for exchange of ideas on the evolution and characteristics of scientific concepts and technological advances. With increasing inflow of articles, the journal was made quarterly in 1984 and is being published in March, June, September, December every year. Besides research articles, the journal also publishes reports of relevant interest, book reviews, the supplements and important news articles as well.
